Native UK Plants that are Perfect for New Gardeners

Home

Gardening is something that many people enjoy, but if it is something that you are new to, then it is best to get started with plants that are easier to maintain and care for. The climate in the UK can be very changeable, so choosing native plants is the best thing to do when you are starting out, as these are well adapted to the weather conditions, and in addition to this they also provide the best food, shelter and environment for the creatures that depend on the many native plants of the UK.

You can buy plants from many different places, either going to a garden centre in person or ordering online from somewhere like this plants for trade company www.palmstead.co.uk

Here are some great plants that you can add to your garden which are great for new gardeners looking to improve their gardens…

Foxgloves – A favourite woodland plant of late spring and early summer, if you have a shady patch in the garden then these are a fantastic plant to add if you want to enjoy their beautiful blooms. Sow them in the later summer or early autumn and then just wait! Foxgloves need no attention once they have been planted and thrive in the damp climate in the UK.

Once spring arrives and the foxgloves start to bloom, they are very attractive to the bees and will provide them with the valuable nectar that they need, as well as butterflies.

Rowan – The rowan tree is a great little tree for the garden. As well as being on the smaller side, it looks beautiful too. Also known as the mountain ash due to its pinnate leaves that resemble those of an ash tree (although the two are not related) the rowan tree really comes into its own in the autumn when it produces a blaze of red berries. These are enjoyed by many birds so it will likely also attract birds to the garden too.

Cornflower – These wildflower favourites are really easy to grow from seed in the spring and are another flower that looks beautiful as well as being an attraction to bees and butterflies. The seeds of cornflowers are also favoured by smaller birds and the stunning blue blooms look beautiful in a summer garden.
