Poker evolved out of the original game of dominoes back in 969AD it is thought that it was a game played by Emperor Mu-Tsung and his wife. Other early forms of the game saw cards being used with gold Nuggets or coins as these gold Nuggets and coins were not uniform in their weight so it was difficult to use them for betting. As the game was played in saloons It soon became apparent that a standardised form of betting was needed, and the poker chip was developed. In the first instance these were made from ivory and other bones as well as clay and wood before we moved to the more modern plastic chips that we see today.
