Recently a popular show to appear on Netflix was the program ‘Interior Design Masters’. It featured a competition with 10 new designers seeking to make a name for themselves by winning a contract to deck out a ‘top London hotel’. They then had to go through several weeks of working against each other and together to come up with designs to catering and retail units plus a variety of room spaces both large and small. These too had themes, such as the main and childs bedroom or a study space. Looking at their struggles you may well have been tempted to enter the field yourself. When watching these kinds of shows everyone thinks they can do better, don’t they!
The first thing to do is to become qualified. This means that you will need to go back to College or University. There are other institutes that you can study at as well. You will need to have the basics in English and Maths as you will be needing to communicate the clients that you have about your plan plus you will have to talk contractors, such as the Blinds Tewkesbury based company https://laskeys.com/, through your visions. Maths is needed for cost evaluations, budgeting and the calculations of measurements. However no other formal qualifications are needed and if you are a mature student then previous experience and life skills can also be used.
It is a very rewarding job. However, be prepared to take some criticisms for you designs, a thick skin and self confidence is definitely needed. You may well need to be a little bit handy with the decorating skills yourself as well!
