Easy ways to keep your windows insulated

Home

In the cooler seasons, many homeowners begin to consider how to make their homes more airtight and better insulated. This makes financial sense as energy bills have rocketed since spring 2022.

The Energy Saving Trust says that insulating windows is one of the key ways that we can reduce our energy usage and bills. Here are some ways those seeking to keep their windows Hereford insulated can make improvements to their home.
Thermal curtains

Hanging thermal curtains is a traditional but great way to keep the cold from leaking through your windows into your main living space. While not the most efficient way, since there will still be some air leakage and drafts, curtains are a cheap and stylish method of insulating your home.

Tape

Taping over window cracks is one of the cheapest ways to keep drafts out and is simple to do. Be careful, however, not to choose a tape that is too sticky as this might accidentally damage your paintwork. This option also won’t stop cold leakage through the glass itself.

Double glazing

Though a costlier option and perhaps a bigger hassle upfront, in the long run, by far the easiest and most effective way of insulating windows is by means of double glazing, whether you replace single-glazed windows or old double-glazed ones.

Good quality double-glazing frames such as those available from a specialist like Truhouse will be more airtight, and two (or even three) panes of glass will stop heat leaking through the glass itself.

Bubble wrap

If you can’t replace your windows, bubble wrapping them during a colder period can be quite effective in keeping warm air in and locking cold air out. Just make sure that the bubbles haven’t been popped!
